Teens blasted over ‘dangerous and stupid’ photo on top of crocodile trap
Two Northern Territory teenagers have been reprimanded by wildlife rangers after posting a photo onto social media of them clowning around on top of a crocodile trap.
The duo posted the now deleted photo of themselves – believed to have been taken near Batchelor, nearly 100km south of Darwin - on a publicly accessible Instagram page.
NT wildlife ranger Tommy Nichols described the teens’ behaviour as “dangerous and stupid”.
“Apart from the fact it’s dangerous, we’ve had a number of large crocs let out of croc traps by people interfering with them lately,” he told News Corp.
“You never know what a crocodile is going to do – it could swim away or it could turn around on you.”
People who interfere with a crocodile trap can be fined $7700 and face six months in prison.
