North Qld woman tests positive for Zika

A north Queensland woman has tested positive to the Zika virus after returning from an overseas holiday.

Tests show the Townsville resident picked up a mild case of the mosquito-bourne virus in Fiji.

However, she was no longer infectious when she returned to Australia, health authorities say.

The woman's Condon home has been sprayed for insects as part of precautionary measures.

Zika is linked to birth defects, north Queensland doctors last month urging pregnant women to avoid mosquito bites following the state's 14th Zika case this year.

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which carry the virus, exclusively breed around homes and in urban areas.
