No safety concerns after Malaysia Airlines incident in Adelaide

A national aviation safety authority has hosed down suggestions of a safety issue with Malaysia Airlines after an incident involving one of its planes at Adelaide Airport earlier this week.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 136 was forced to stop during take-off after a Tigerair flight from Melbourne had to change its landing approach.

Air Services Australia said there was no “near miss” between the two planes, and that the Tigerair pilot had requested a standard “go-around” procedure due to an unstable approach upon landing.

“A go-around is a safe and well-practised manoeuvre that sees an aircraft discontinue its approach to the runway when landing,” the Air Services Australia statement read.

“Additionally, and to ensure the continued safe operations at the airport, air traffic controllers requested an international flight discontinue its take-off.”

It is understood that the Malaysia Airlines plane taxied to a holding point off the runway before taking off 30 minutes after its false start.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesperson said there would be no investigation into the incident.
