No request from US for more troops: Bishop

The United States has not made any request for more Australian troops in the fight against Islamic State, the foreign minister says.

Julie Bishop confirmed she was not asked to extend Australia's commitment in the Middle East during a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence in Washington.

"No, there was not," she told the Nine Network on Thursday.
