No proof yet girl got sick from water park

The West Australian health minister has conceded the state government should take responsibility if it is confirmed the Elizabeth Quay water park caused a child's eye infection.

Five-year-old Chelsea Fawcett was hospitalised with an eye infection before doctors told her family she was partially blind in one eye and it was unknown if her sight would return to normal.

Slater and Gordon is investigating a claim on behalf of Chelsea against the state government.

Health Minister Kim Hames told reporters on Monday that "pseudomonas found at the water park may well have contributed to infections".

But he later told AAP there was "no medical evidence presented to date from any patient that this had in fact occurred".

Premier Colin Barnett said at the weekend there was nothing to stop the family from pursuing legal action.

Opposition planning spokeswoman Rita Saffioti renewed calls on Monday for a public inquiry.

"This government has shown that it put its own propaganda above that of public health and they've been found out," she told reporters.

"They said there was no public health risk and now they're saying there was a public health risk.

"It's clear they opened it too early and now there are significant consequences."
