'No job security fears in civil service'

Job security in the Australian public service is not a major issue, Australian Public Service Commissioner John Lloyd says.

Mr Lloyd told a Senate estimates hearing on Monday, in answer to a Labor question, slightly fewer than 12 per cent of public servants are hired on a "non-ongoing" basis.

Asked whether job security was an issue, he said: "I don't think it's a major issue. It hasn't been brought to my attention in any serious way by agencies."

Mr Lloyd said public service union members who had not yet settled pay agreements, which started being negotiated in 2014, had missed out on thousands of dollars in pay.

An APS level 4 officer would be $2100 better off if a deal had been struck last year and an Executive level one officer was $3295 behind, not including 15.4 per cent superannuation.
