Victorian Premier-elect Daniel Andrews selects nine women in Cabinet

Victorian Premier-elect Daniel Andrews was given a hero’s welcome by his party before announcing his new state Cabinet today.

Before revealing his new team, Mr Andrews promised to hit the ground running.

“Now more than ever Victoria and might I say the rest of our nation, needs political leadership that keeps its word and delivers,” he said.

Nine women have been appointed to the Andrews cabinet.

Danielle Green and Brian Tee, who is expected to lose his position in the upper house, have been replaced by Jaala Pulford and Jane Garrett.

Gavin Jennings will become Labor leader in the Legislative Council.

In the lower house, Telmo Languiller is set for the speaker's chair.

But as counting continues, three seats remain in doubt.

In Prahran, Liberal Clem Newton Brown has clawed back in front by 72 votes.

Bentleigh’s count sees the Liberals trailing by 319 votes.

And in Frankston, the ALP has extended its margin to 164.

The portfolios of the new ministry will be unveiled in full tomorrow morning after Daniel Andrews is officially sworn in as Victoria's 48th premier at Government House.

A potential upper house crossbencher the Andrews Government will now have to negotiate with is the socially conservative Rachel Carling-Jenkins from the Democratic Labour Party.

And later tonight, former Water Minister Peter Walsh is expected to be elected unopposed as the new leader of the National Party.
