Nine.com.au senior reporter Emily McPherson was last night named journalist of the year at a gala event in Sydney.

McPherson was recognised at the prestigious Mumbrella Publish Awards for both her heartbreaking series on the death of 15-year-old Victorian schoolgirl Cassidy Trevan and her leading role in nine.com.au's award-nominated rolling coverage of the bombing at Manchester Arena during an Ariana Grande concert.

9Honey's Natalie Cornish was also nominated in the same category – Journalist of the Year (Large Publisher) – while Nine's leading woman’s network 9Honey, which has grown to a unique audience of nearly 2 million in just 10 months, was shortlisted for Best Launch/Relaunch of the Year (Large Publisher).

McPherson's body of work revealed Cassidy's tragic suicide after a group of schoolyard bullies orchestrated her gang rape in a series of exclusive articles.
