Newsagent threatened and bashed by gunman in violent armed robbery

A Sydney newsagent said he feared for his life when he was threatened and bashed by a gunman in a violent armed robbery.

CCTV shows the hooded thief storming the Pagewood store just after 5.40pm yesterday, pointing a gun directly to his face.

The 55-year-old owner Mark, who declined to give his surname, attempted to knock the gun from the robber’s hand before he picked up a chair and threw it across the counter.

“I had real fear that even if I gave him the money, he would still shoot if that’s what his intention was,” Mark told 9NEWS.

“That’s why my first reaction was to hit his gun.”

The attacker then picked up a second chair before he and his accomplice began to bash the newsagent.

The pair then fled with a small amount of cash.

Police are appealing for public help to identify the attackers.

The gunman is described as being of Mediterranean appearance, about 170 centimetres tall and aged in his early 20s.

His accomplice is described as having a larger build, with the pair both wearing hooded jumpers.
