Bushfire on Victoria's Western Port under control

A bushfire in Shoreham - 80kms south of Melbourne – has been downgraded from an “emergency warning” to a “watch and act”.

The bushfire at Punty Lane in Shoreham was upgraded to an “emergency warning” at 1.49pm with warnings stating the blaze was travelling in a south-easterly direction towards the Shoreham coastline.

Fire crews will remain on scene throughout the night securing and monitoring the fire.

State Response Controller, Dan Stephens confirmed the fire had been in the proximity of houses with crews being assisted by 37 fire vehicles, two airplanes and one helicopter.

The State Control Centre confirmed that tomorrow is going to be a total fire ban for South West Victoria tomorrow with temperatures expected to climb near 40 accompanied by moderate northerly winds.
