Scott Hoskins said there’s nothing he could have done to avoid the horrific accident that killed a Sydney woman.

But it’s what he did next that saw him jailed today for at least 18 months.

The 22-year-old admitted to police that he initially stopped after hitting Scott Hoskins when she stepped in front of his car just metres from her Waterloo apartment in September 2018.

But, when he saw the 20-year-old was dead he fled the scene because his license was suspended at the time.

Hoskins then let his mother try to take the fall.

She told police she was the one behind the wheel until CCTV near the scene proved there had been two young men in the fleeing car.

The other man, in the passenger seat, was Hoskins’ best mate Ashley Killorn who is already serving a seven month sentence for his role in the cover up.

Today Hoskin shook his head and his fiancé sobbed as he was sentenced to three years behind bars, 18 months non-parole.

The Judge said he took into account Hoskins’ young age, his strong prospect of rehabilitation and the unlikelihood he would ever commit such a serious offence again.

With time already served he will walk free in March next year.
