Continued efforts by police and volunteers have failed to find a Victorian teenager missing and feared drowned off South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula.

Arash Yari, 17, was swept out to sea on Tuesday this week after being caught in a rip off Parsons Beach, south of Adelaide.

Police said the continued search today had failed to find the teenager, with divers hampered by rough conditions and poor visibility.

Mr Yari's family watched the search from the shoreline, with his father vowing to stay "until I get my missing son".

A 20-year-old friend who also got into trouble at the same time managed to return to shore.

Both swimmers are believed to originally be from Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, Detective Sergeant Carl Whitaker, said: "They were about knee deep in water and as we understand it they may have been hit by a wave and hit some difficulties.

"Attempts were made to try and retrieve that person from the ocean and unfortunately that person, at that stage wasn't retrieved from the ocean."

Authorities plan to return tomorrow for a final attempt to locate the boy's body.
