A bizarre circular object has become wedged between the safety barriers of a motorway off-ramp in Lake Macquarie, NSW.

The half-sphere object, which appears to be the lid of an industrial cylinder, became stuck on the M1 Pacific Motorway northbound off-ramp to Newcastle Link Road at Cameron Park earlier this morning.

A statement from the Transport Management centre said the truck’s load had “shifted” during transportation, causing it to collide with both sides of the off-ramp.

“Northbound motorists wanting to travel east on Newcastle Link Road can exit the motorway at George Booth Drive and take Cameron Park Drive to Newcastle Link Road,” a TMC spokesperson said.

“Motorists can still access the Hunter Expressway westbound from the off-ramp.”

A specialist 400 tonne crane departed Sydney at 9am to help shift the object.

One of two northbound lanes is closed on the M1 as crews work to salvage the truck.
