Teen charged after needles planted on Melbourne train

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a Melbourne commuter found dozens of needles poking out of his train seat.

Anthony Artusa had just boarded a city-bound Sunbury service from West Footscray when he made the painful discovery just before 8am on Tuesday.

“Once I sat down I felt a little prick,” Mr Artusa told 9News.

Transit police have charged a 16-year-old boy from Fawkner with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, assault, assault with a weapon and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

Police believe another man may have also been injured about 90 minutes prior to Mr Artusa’s discovery.

Inspector Andrew Gustke from Victoria Police earlier said the perpetrator could face up to ten years jail for the "appalling" and "dangerous" stunt.

“My warning is to those who even think about doing something like this, you are being watched you will be caught.”

The boy remains in custody and will appear at a children's court at a later date.
