The driver of a motorhome failed to heed five warning signs before becoming stuck under the bridge in South Melbourne.

The incident happened just before 11am this morning.

VicRoads have urged drivers once again to check their dimensions before driving and to observe road signage.

A bus driver who slammed into the Montague Street bridge was recently sentenced to five years and three months in prison.

Jack Aston, 55, will serve a non-parole period of two years and six months after crashing the Gold Bus Ballarat straight into the low clearance bridge in February 2016.

Six of the 14 passengers on board the bus were seriously injured in the crash, while Aston suffered a broken neck.
