A Melbourne man has faced court charged with murder after the body of a 49-year-old man was found at a home in the city’s south-west.

Emergency services were called to the home on Mount Eagle Way, in Wyndham Vale, about 8.50pm on Sunday, and discovered Micah Kalawek dead in the backyard.

Daniel Hounslow, 41, from Wyndham Vale, was arrested and charged with murder yesterday.

Today Mr Hounslow appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court. His Hounslow's lawyer didn't raise any custody management issues and made no bail application for the man.

The 41-year-old is due to return to court for a committal mention on June 18.

Yesterday Wyndham Vale resident Julie Cartwright, whose home is located on the back fence of where the body was found, said she called police to the home last week.

“It’s hard, another life lost for no reason… it’s really sad, I really feel for all the emergency services,” Ms Cartwright said.

“It’s scary, you don’t think it would be out your front door.”
