Cousins fined for meth possession

Fallen AFL star Ben Cousins has admitted to drug possession, six months after he was arrested in Canning Vale.

It was revealed in court the 40-year-old was using about $1500 worth of methamphetamine over just three or four days at the height of his addiction.

Police found almost 15 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside Ben Cousins' body and in his possession when he was arrested over a trespass incident in Canning Vale in August.

Originally the former West Coast Eagles star was facing an intent to sell charge.

However, the court heard police examined Cousins' bank accounts and discovered he would have been using roughly that amount every three or four days.

The charge was then downgraded to simple possession, to which Cousins pleaded guilty.

His fine and court costs totalled just over $2000.

Cousins' lawyer told the court he can afford to pay the fine thanks to an ongoing sponsorship deal.

Cousins has been remanded in Hakea prison and will return to court early next month on a string of charges, including family violence.
