Men arrested, charged over alleged role in $13.5 million drug bust in Adelaide

Police have intercepted 18 kilograms of methamphetamine during raids on two Adelaide properties.

Two men from the northern suburbs have been charged with importing the drugs, which had been hidden in car accessories.

The huge haul - the equivalent of nearly 180,000 street deals - was uncovered as part of a joint operation between South Australia police and the Australian Federal Police.

Worth $13.5 million, the drugs were found concealed in modified 4WD winches found at a property at Wingfield.

A second property at Modbury Heights was also searched.

Police found more than $13,000 in cash, a money counter, scales, electronic devices and travel documents between the properties.

Two men, aged 51 and 46, have been charged with importing a commercial quantity of methamphetamine.

Police say it was Australian Border Force officers at Perth Airport who made the original breakthrough.

They were suspicious of a 51-year-old - who had travelled to Perth from Bali - and referred the matter to police.

It's alleged air cargo consignments were then linked to the man and then traced to the address at Wingfield.

Police have described the methods used to bring the drugs to Australia as brazen.

They believe it's the work of an organised crime gang and are continuing to track down all of those involved.

The two men have been remanded in custody to appear in court next week.
