Four men charged after car struck gas pipe during chaotic Adelaide arrest

Four men have been charged after a car struck a gas pipe during a chaotic arrest in Adelaide.

Police were at a home on Rose Terrace in Wayville about 6.30pm yesterday when a motorcycle and a grey Holden sedan arrived.

Officers suspected the motorbike to be stolen and spoke to the rider.

When they tried to speak to the car's driver, he allegedly became aggressive and reversed at speed into a gas pipe before he fled on foot.

Police dog Zac was called in to search for the man and found him hiding behind bins on nearby Greenhill Road.

The 38-year-old Morphett Vale man was arrested and charged with driving in a manner dangerous, property damage and hindering police.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 38-year-old Holden Hill man, received minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment. 

He was arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and theft offences.

Both were refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

A 41-year-old Klemzig man and a 24-year-old Wayville man were also arrested and charged with dishonestly dealing with property over an unrelated theft matter.  

They were bailed to appear in court on May 15.

Two motorcycles and the grey Holden sedan were towed from the scene.
