NSW school welcomes unusual number of twins to kindergarten class

When the new school year starts there is often a set or two of twins among the class.

But New Lambton Public School in the NSW Hunter region welcomed not one or two but four sets of twins to its kindergarten class of 2022.

It's a milestone occasion for the school: four sets of twins, all in the same year group, is almost unheard of.

Acting Principal Kaylene Maretich said parents are given the option of whether they'd like their twins to be in the same class or separated.

"They've all got their own, individual personalities, their likes, their dislikes and they make their own friends," Ms Maretich said.

Among the eager group is thick-as-thieve, girl-power duo Iggy and Darcy.

Although the smallest of their twin peers, they are big in spirit, running in this morning to greet their new teachers with a smile.

"We're full of excitement, all the emotions", the girls' mum Sarah Perry said as she dropped them off.

"I'm probably going to cry again at some point."

Identical twin brothers Seth and Lucas join the girls along with cool kids Angus and Oscar.

Meanwhile, the boy-girl pair Emily and Max are joined at the hip.

Their dad, Damien Jones, said shy Max has often been dependent on the confidence of his sister.

"She really helped him at preschool and I'm sure she'll do the same here today," Mr Jones laughed.

But it was all smiles as the kids waved goodbye to their parents at the gates this morning, off to have "double the fun", or perhaps double the trouble.
