Australians who buy new homes will likely be charged up to $900 to access high-speed broadband while buyers of existing homes won't get a bill.
The federal government has released its new developments policy confirming Labor fears of an "NBN tax".
The Department of Communications has told a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday the charges would recoup part of the average cost of $2745 imposed on NBN Co for greenfield developments and enable competition with private providers.
