New clue in search for missing Australian tourist in the US

US police say they are exhausting every lead in the search for missing Australian tourist Sally Grace Contarino, more than three weeks after she went missing in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old’s family and friends last heard from her on June 20, the day before she was due to fly home to Melbourne.

One possible lead is a necklace that Contarino may have been wearing on her trip.

Her sisters have been unable to find the John Hardy citrine pendant attached to a silver chain, which it’s understood the 26-year-old wears all the time.

This is according to a prominent social media account, Real Vegas Locals, which has been providing updates on behalf of the family.

It is understood Contarino received the necklace as a gift from a family member, who bought the cherished item from a vintage jewellery store.

The social media account said Contarino’s sisters had travelled to the US and were unable to find the pendant.

“If Sally was wearing the necklace, someone may have seen it, found it, or come across it without realising its significance,” the account told an online forum.

“It may also be worth keeping an eye on online marketplaces such as eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, and similar sites.

“Every detail, no matter how small, could be important.”

Nine.com.au asked a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson if the missing necklace would form part of the investigation.

“This remains an ongoing investigation led by the LVMPD missing person’s detail,” the spokesperson said.

“Detectives will continue to exhaust every lead but encourage anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact us.”

The police spokesperson did not provide any further information.

Since Contarino’s disappearance, Las Vegas residents have joined the search for the 26-year-old, in the hopes of sending her home to her loved ones in Melbourne.

A Real Vegas Locals spokesperson previously said the interest in Contarino’s case had been “extraordinary”.

“Our social media has been flooded with comments and DMs from Las Vegas locals offering local insight, checking old dashcam footage, discussing the timeline, and sharing anything they think could assist the search,” the spokesperson said.

“The Websleuths community has also been incredibly active, carefully analysing the publicly available information and helping piece together Sally’s timeline.

“We’ve also seen locals heading out to areas with drones, searching for possible clues, and doing what they can to support the search.”

KLAS 8 News Now, a Las Vegas television station affiliated with broadcaster CBS, reported Contarino’s last-known contact was a message to a friend on Facebook on June 20.

The article, which cited a Las Vegas Metro Police report, said Contarino told the friend she was about to hike up Lone Mountain.

The report noted “it is not known if she was with a person” at the time.

According to police facts, Contarino did not board her scheduled return flight home to Melbourne on June 21.

The facts also state she was using the WISE payment app to transfer funds and she owns an Apple iPhone.
