NBN construction crews begin FTTN trial

Construction crews have begun work on NBN Co's fibre-to-the-node trial in NSW and Queensland, chief executive Bill Morrow will tell a Senate committee.

NBN Co aims to have 1000 nodes installed across the two states before June 2015, eventually delivering high-speed broadband to about 250,000 homes and businesses.

Work began in Belmont earlier this week, with Boolaroo, Morisset, Hamilton and Gorokan the next NSW areas in line for the trial.

In Queensland, construction is listed for Bribie Island, Bundaberg, Gympie, Caboolture and Warner.

The 1000-node trial is the second phase of FTTN build activity after the coalition government decided to scrap Labor's all fibre-to-the-home approach.

A small-scale FTTN rollout has already been undertaken in Umina Beach in NSW and Epping in Victoria.

"The work under way in Belmont represents solid progress in the transition of the NBN to the new model," Mr Morrow will tell the NBN Senate hearing in Canberra on Friday.
