Nauru govt complains about ABC story

The ABC is under fire on a new front, this time from the government of Nauru.

The island's government has complained to ABC managing director Mark Scott about a 7.30 story which it says made unsubstantiated and false accusations that one of its ministers attempted to hinder investigations into his wife's death.

Justice Minister David Adeang claims the program's insensitive questioning left him and his children traumatised, labelling it a new low in Australian journalism.

Mr Adeang said the story was based solely on the disproved claims of disgruntled former government employees and Nauru opposition MPs.

"It is clear the ABC is conspiring with the Nauru opposition to destabilise the government of Nauru," he said in a statement.

The ABC had been using Nauru as a "punching bag" to achieve its real agenda of attacking the Australian government.

"It is unprecedented for an Australian media organisation to interfere in the domestic politics of another country," Mr Adeang said.

He called on the Australian government to launch an immediate investigation.
