National trial to improve dementia care

A Victorian program to improve care for dementia patients in hospitals is being rolled out in a wider national trial.

The program uses visual bedside symbols to help staff identify dementia patients, as well as training on how to provide them with appropriate care.

The federal government is spending $2.3 million to trial the program in four hospitals in Canberra, Tasmania, Adelaide and Western Australia.
