National gridlock: Freeway congestion hits Easter drivers across Australia

The Easter long-weekend has kicked off to a slow start for many motorists, with significant traffic delays across the country.

Significant delays have been reported in Sydney, the Central Coast and other parts of NSW as motorists trek to see loved ones and friends.

Sydney:

• There are moderate delays approaching the Sydney Fish Markets at Pyrmont.

• Heavy traffic around Sydney Olympic Park for the Easter Show. All car parks are now full.

• Westbound traffic has eased slightly on the Great Western Highway from Katoomba to Medlow Bath with a 2km queue, adding an extra 20 minutes to travel time.

Central Coast, NSW:

• Traffic is returning to normal on Main Road in Toukley after an earlier car accident.

• Southbound traffic has eased on the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale.

• Northbound delays have eased on the M1 Princes Motorway (F3) between Cowan and Brooklyn.

Greater NSW:

• A woman has died and six people injured in a two-car collision on the Pacific Highway at Macksville.

• Southbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway at Berry and is queued 6km, adding an extra 45 minutes travel time.

• Southbound delays on the Princes Highway in Batemans Bay have eased.

South Australia:

Adelaide commuters faced bumper-to-bumper jams for several kilometres north and south of Port Wakefield this afternoon and significant delays are still on going.

• Northbound traffic on Port Wakefield Road banked up as far as 5 km.

• SA Police and emergency service crews are at the scene of a serious crash near Point Turton on Yorke Peninusla.

• Just before 4pm, a car rolled on North Coast Road about 4kms west of Point Turton.

• Local police patrols are at the scene and are directing traffic around the crash site.

Western Australia:

Perth is also suffering the Easter blues, with heavy congestion on the Kwinana Freeway slowing some motorists down to 40 km/h. The congestion has been cleared but Main Roads WA has warned drivers to take it easy and expect delays.

• Roe Highway southbound at Orrong Road and Welshpool Road East congestion has been cleared.

• Kwinany Freeway southbound from Leach Highway to Mortimer Road congestion has been cleared.

• Marmion Avenue both directions from Old Yanchep to Pippindinny Road is closed due to a bushfire.

Queensland:

A crash on Brisbane’s Cunningham Highway caused massive traffic issues early this morning.

Motorists are advised to plan their trip, allow plenty of additional travel time and expect significant delays as heavy holiday traffic is expected to continue throughout the day.

Double Demerits will be enforced across the country until midnight on Monday, April 6.
