Secret tips of mum who makes 385 meals a week for $150
A Toowoomba mum who prepares up to 385 meals a week for her family has found a way to keep her grocery budget to just $150.
Kerri-Ann Manly has four children, three step-children and two grandchildren, and makes anything from 175 to 385 meals a week for them.
It all starts with a fortnightly plan that allows her to plan her grocery shopping, she told The TODAY Show.
She avoids pre-packaged food, pre-chops her fruit and vegetables and packs her groceries away according to what day she will need them.
Her family is also involved in preparing meals, which allows her to teach the younger children about food and how to cook and budget.
She said she usually kept to a budget of $150 a week but, incredibly, halved that during a "no-spend" month when leftovers were used.
"My biggest piece of advice is, don't expect it to happen all at once," Ms Manly said.
She said people should focus on getting one thing at a time right to build successful habits.
