Comedian Harry Shearer who voices a multitude of mainstay characters on The Simpsons is unlikely to return to the long-running show because of a pay dispute.

The man behind the voices of Ned Flanders, Mr Burns and Waylon Smithers, Principal Skinner, Lenny Leonard, Otto Man, Dr Julius Hibbert and Reverend Lovejoy, to name a few, appears unlikely to return for another season if his recent tweets are anything to go by.

Earlier this month Fox renewed the show for another two seasons but there were reports one member of the voice cast was holding back on the deal because they wanted a larger slice of the merchandising revenue.

The holdout was revealed to be Shearer, a multi-talented actor and comedian in his own right who has been with the show since 1989.

If the Tweet by way of producer James L Brooks' lawyer is anything to go by, Springfield might lose some of its most entertaining residents.
