Five people have been assessed at the scene, and one person has been taken to Dandenong Hospital for further treatment.

Their condition is unknown at this stage.

All lanes remain closed outbound on the South Gippsland Freeway before the Princes Highway in Hallam.

Delays are building quickly back onto the Monash Freeway outbound, VicRoads said in a statement.

“VicRoads advises outbound motorists to consider using the Princes Highway as an alternative route.”

UPDATE: Lanes have since reopened.
