MPs to get an easy week

Parliament's lower house will sit for two days only next week as the government pressures the Senate to pass legislation that could trigger a July election.

The shortened sitting program will also consider a bill that abolishes the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal following an outcry by truck owner-drivers over new minimum pay rates.

The government has given the Senate three weeks to pass or reject other legislation that restores the Australian Building and Construction Commission and imposes tougher governance rules on trade unions.
