MP hints that leader rules not locked in

Labor frontbencher Gary Gray has hinted that his party could reconsider rules safeguarding its federal leader.

The draft ALP constitution - to be debated at the national conference later this month - includes the provision of choosing a leader by a split caucus and grass-root members ballot, but not the way in which a vote can be triggered.

Mr Gray told ABC radio on Wednesday the rules worked perfectly in the inaugural leadership ballot in 2013, but the caucus could "look at their applicability to future situations and make a judgment on our view".
