The brand new rollercoaster at Movieworld became stuck on the Gold Coast today – leaving a carriage full of passengers trapped for 15 minutes.

Dozens of terrified customers on the DC Rivals Hypercoast were stuck at a 45-degree angle for at least 10 minutes by a mechanical failure.

The theme park blamed an external power outage and closed down the attraction for the rest of the day.

Home in nearby Helensvale for also blacked out by the same issue.

A spokesman told the Gold Coast Bulletin that the rollercoaster stopped on the lift hill to the first hump at around 3.20pm.

The ride only opened last Friday and is the largest one of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

The incident would have brought back horrible memories of the Dreamworld tragedies on the Gold Coast back in October.

Four people were killed when the Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned, flipping a six-person raft.
