Mount Isa man charged after allegedly assaulting police officer

A Mount Isa man has been charged with assault after he allegedly struck a police officer in the face before trying to strangle him.
Police responded to a fight involving several people at the Mount Isa Racecourse around 10:30pm yesterday.
It is alleged that when officers attempted to separate those involved in the fight, a 25-year-old man attacked a 29-year-old constable, punching and attempting to strangle him.

The officer was taken to hospital with facial bruising and a concussion.
The alleged attacker was arrested at the scene and has been charged with serious assault police and obstruct police.
He is expected to front Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday.
