'Dangerous' winds delaying retrieval of rock climber's body
Dangerous conditions are hampering a police operation to retrieve the body of an abseiler after he fell to his death off a Queensland cliff.
Police are set to retrieve the body of a rock climber who fell 300 metres to his death off a cliff at Mount Barney in Queensland.
The man had been abseiling with another man and a woman when he fell from his rope and went missing on the eastern cliff face, southwest of Brisbane, yesterday afternoon.
A search and rescue operation was launched about 12.50pm and rescuers airlifted a man and woman, aged in their 30s, just after 5pm.
The body of the 50-year-old Bethania man was found about 5.50pm.
Today, attempts to recover the body were hampered by dangerous winds.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Preliminary investigations indicate the 50-year-old fell about 300 metres.
