Motorist shot in shoulder in Sydney's west

A man shot in the shoulder in Sydney's west may have upset mourners as he drove past a memorial gathering for the victim of a fatal shooting.

Police found the 38-year-old with a gunshot wound on Greystanes Road at Greystanes at about 9.30pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.

His injuries are not considered life threatening and he was taken to Westmead Hospital.

"Early investigations suggest this may be a targeted attack," police said in a statement.

They are exploring links with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Dyllan Kettule outside a unit block in Canley Vale early on Sunday.

Police on Wednesday could not confirm reports the 38-year-old was shot at several times on The Horsley Drive at Smithfield as he drove past a property where a memorial gathering was being held for the dead man.

A local called Zac, who was opposite the memorial gathering, heard the shots.

"I came outside and saw a bit of panic across the road over there, there's a couple of women screaming and I saw people start to run to their cars," he told Macquarie Radio.
