Most Australian teenage girls have experienced cyberbullying, study finds
A staggering 98 per cent of teenage girls have been bullied online, according to a new survey conducted by Queensland researchers.
The University of the Sunshine Coast study focused on 336 Australian girls aged between 14 and 19.
Researchers found 62 per cent of those girls were teased or insulted about their body weight, shape or physical features online.

As a result, 96 per cent of victims felt the need to change their physical appearance in some way through extreme exercise or dieting.
Meanwhile, 81 per cent wanted to undergo cosmetic procedures, prompting urgent advice for parents and teachers.
University of Sunshine Coast researcher Tahlia Prince said there was a need to educate girls about what is and isn't appropriate behaviour online.

"How they can support themselves and support their friends who may be experiencing these negative instances online," Prince said.
"There's also room for more strict guidelines for what young people can engage with on social media."
