Morrison wary of Labor infrastructure plan

Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison has given broad support to Labor's infrastructure plan, but he questions the ALP's ability to deliver it.

Mr Morrison says productive infrastructure is needed to grow Australia's economy, and the model of borrowing money and using Infrastructure Australia to fund projects that will deliver a good return is worth contemplating.

"These are interesting ideas," he told 3AW on Thursday.

"Any idea, though, is only ever going to be as good as its implementation, so while I think there is some merit in what (Opposition Leader Bill Shorten) has put forward, at the end of the day what has to happen is that you have got to find projects that are actually going to pay a return."

Mr Morrison said Labor had a poor track record when it came to implementing big ideas.

"You can have a great idea but you've got to be able to implement it. Pink batts and all the rest of it, we all remember very well," he said.
