More than 18,000 Hyundai cars recalled over manufacturing defect

More than 18,000 Hyundai cars are being recalled due to a manufacturing defect.

The recall is for the i30 PD model from 2020 to 2021.

"Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel pump impeller may become deformed under certain environmental conditions, interrupting the fuel supply," the recall notice said.

"If this occurs, the engine could stall, resulting in a sudden loss of motive power.

"A sudden loss of motive power while driving may increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."

Hyundai Australia will contact affected car owners in writing, asking them to schedule an appointment to have the fuel pump impeller inspected and replaced free of charge.

A list of vehicle identification numbers of the affected cars is available on the Department of Transport website.
