More storms likely for south-east Queensland

More storms and rain are forecast for south-east Queensland this week as residents clean up after a weekend of wild weather.

Thousands of homes lost power after a line of severe storms brought down powerlines yesterday afternoon.

More than 80,000 lightning strikes were recorded as well as golf ball sized hail and torrential rain.

SES crews responded to more than 200 calls for help across the region.

Properties in Chuwar, west of Brisbane, were damaged after a dangerous cell brought down trees and branches.

The Phipps family has been left with a gaping hole in their laundry after a neighbour's tree snapped and landed on their roof.

"It's just devastation," Debbie Phipps told 9News.

"My husband's broken this morning, I'm broken. You just don't expect it."

One man was left seriously hurt after a tree fell on him at his property in Ipswich.

The 30-year-old suffered upper body injuries and was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm is predicted for the south-east today, but forecasters says there may be more storms to come.

The Bureau of Meteorology says possibly severe thunderstorms are likely for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Emergency services are urging residents to monitor weather warnings.
