Tens of thousands brave the heat as iconic Moomba parade makes triumphant return
Thousands of families have flocked to Melbourne's Birrarung Marr to enjoy the city's much-loved Moomba parade.
It's the first parade since 2023, after last year's event was cancelled amid a heatwave.
Melbourne comedy troupe Sooshi Mango led the 2025 Moomba parade through Kings Domain.
The trio followed in the footsteps of last year's Moomba monarchs Emma Memma and Pete Helliar, for a long weekend of family fun.
Other past Moomba Monarchs include Shane Warne, Cathy Freeman and Molly Meldrum.
Sooshi Mango is made up of brothers Carlo and Joe Salanitri along with their friend Andrew Manfre, and has gained a cult following online with its comedy skits.
The trio waved to fans from a palatial marble float adorned with vine leaves.
"We spent about 70 years designing this float," the group told 9News.
"This is from my bathroom, it's the marble and the tiles."
Performers from the Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company impressed crowds on the parade route.
The group was one of three dozen odd collectives representing diverse cultures across Melbourne.
More than 1600 performers of all ages and backgrounds took to the streets for the event.
The Moomba parade was the final hurrah for the five-day festival.
Dancers from the Manasis School of Greek Dance and Culture brought culture and tradition to the parade.
Since 1955, the Moomba Parade has swept through the city of Melbourne.
Chinese Dragon performers helped energise the crowd, many of whom were feeling the heat of a 32 degree day.
Performers from NB Dance Bollywood soaked up the excitement of the day.
Thousands lined the parade route along Birdwood Avenue.
