2005 - Khaled Sharrouf convicted over role in biggest terrorism plot in Australian history.

2012 - Sharrouf, after release from prison, attends the Al-Risalah prayer centre in Sydney.

2013 - Sharrouf, using his brother's passport, and Mohamed Elomar leave Australia for Syria.

2013 - Months later, Sharrouf's wife Tara Nettleton leaves Australia for Syria with the couple's five children.

2014 - Sharrouf and Elomar gain international infamy for posing in photographs holding the severed heads of Syrian soldiers. Sharrouf's seven-year-old son is also pictured holding a severed head.

2015 - Reports surface in May that Tara Nettleton is trying to return to Sydney with her children.

2015 - Reports emerge on June 22 that Sharrouf and Elomar have been killed fighting with Islamic State while in Mosul, in northern Iraq.
