'Moalition' vie for hairy crown

As Speaker, Bronwyn Bishop is used to adjudicating on some hairy moments.

On Monday she found herself judging one of the hairiest: which member of federal parliament's "moalition" had the greatest moustache.

She set criteria of character, texture, colour, shape, width and length.

With all those tallied up, Nationals MP Darren Chester bested his mo-growing colleagues, Labor's Graham Perrett and Liberal John Alexander.

The trio downed razors for the month of November in aid of raising awareness and money for men's health issues.

They've raised nearly $2000 through their Movember campaign and hope to shake a few more dollars out of their parliamentary colleagues' pockets this week.

More importantly to them, they've had many conversations with men about the importance of keeping healthy and getting regular "tune ups".

"This getting fit is not easy once you let it go," said Mr Alexander, a former tennis champion.

He competed in the Ryde Rollercoaster Run on Sunday and now felt he'd been kicked by a donkey, he told reporters in Canberra.

After pronouncing Mr Chester the mo-man of federal parliament and draping him in a sash, Mrs Bishop took a razor to the three MPs' faces.
