Police are searching for a man who has not been seen since he visited a pub in the Yarra Valley with friends two days ago.

Werribee man Poshik Sharma disappeared after the group of friends he was with made a pitstop at the Duck Inn in Marysville at 3.50pm on Thursday on their way to Mount Buller.

Mr Sharma, 21, left his friends after an argument erupted and has not been seen since.

Police are particularly concerned for his safety with his relatives saying the disappearance is out of character, adding that he's not the type to go wandering.

Temperatures in the area are expected to drop to around 3 degrees tonight.

The student's bank accounts and social media haven't been touched and his phone is not ringing.

His family today made an emotional plea for their son’s safe return.

SES crews scoured the surrounding bushland for the missing man.  9News

“We're just praying to god, please send him back,” his sister said today.

“Please help us .... please help us.”

Mr Poshik is studying to become an automotive mechanic and has only been in Australia for 18 months.
