Minns government approves fast-track of 100 new preschools across NSW

The NSW government has approved the fast-tracking of 100 public preschools.

The $769 million plan has been dubbed the largest expansion of public preschools in the state's history and will cater to 2000 three- and four-year-olds.

Western Sydney will have 51 new preschools built across several suburbs, including Box Hill, Blacktown North, Edensor Park, Emerton, Cabramatta West, Mt Pritchard and Yagoona.

The remaining 49 will be scattered across regional and rural communities, including the South Coast, the Hunter, Illawarra, Mid North Coast, New England, Southern NSW, Northern Rivers, Far West, Riverina, South-West Slopes and Central West regions.

"Access to preschool education, quality play-based learning, makes such a difference in the transition to primary school learning and the basics of literacy and numeracy," Education Minister Prue Car said.

All 100 will be delivered by 2027, with the government slashing red tape to ensure each school is built within eight months or sooner.

"This is about making sure the planning system in NSW is not standing in the way of good education outcomes for kids right across the state," Planning Minister Paul Scully said.

A change in planning rules will allow the pre-schools to be located within existing public schools, both along side them or inside the existing structures, saving time on development applications.

The Minns government revealed its plans to build 49 new pre-schools in the regions in February, following through on an election promise.
