Greg Hunt says sorry for foul mouthed tirade

Health Minister, Greg Hunt, has apologised to a 71-year-old grandmother for an expletive ridden tirade six months ago.

The apology came after media inquiries to the minister's office, and after the female Mayor of Katherine, twice approached the minister about the showdown.

Fay Miller also last month wrote to the Prime Minister's office explaining the incident.

Ms Miller told the Herald-Sun Mr Hunt had told her to "f--king get over" herself, claiming he'd acted aggressively, and had intimidated her.

The clash occurred at a meeting, to discuss a health package for the Northern Territory town, in Canberra, in December.

This morning, the minister held a quick dor stop interview to again apologise.

"I used strong language," Mr Hunt said.

"I have apologised to the mayor of Katherine and today I want to repeat that apology, publicly, and sincerely, and absolutely.

"It was my fault and my responsibility and I accept that.

"And I think it's important to repeat that I have apologised to the mayor and to repeat that apology publicly.

"I should have apologised earlier.

Ms Miller told the media she would "not accept or tolerate being treated so boorishly and arrogantly".

A spokesman for Mr Hunt has denied he acted aggressively, saying "strong opinions were raised on both sides" during what was described as a "spirited meeting".

The Prime Minister told Question Time all ministers should treat those they deal with, with respect.

“Sometimes, ministers fall short,” Mr Turnbull said.

He said Mr Hunt had apologised and “that apology was appropriate”.

Labor had asked Mr Turnbull if he was aware of any other incidents or complaints, about Mr Hunt’s language or behaviour towards public servants, staff, or stakeholders.

Malcolm Turnbull didn’t answer, but said Mr Hunt was doing “an outstanding job”.
