Milne to discuss Greens party reform

The Australian Greens will consider how to move their party into the modern, professional political era at their national conference.

Leader Christine Milne will address the conference on Saturday and is expected to outline proposals for party reform.

It's understood a proposal to create a central executive council, similar to how the Labor and Liberal parties are structured, will be discussed.

The Greens have not made any significant changes to their constitution since the national-level party was established more than 20 years ago.

Some state branches are resisting change, and want the party to remain a grassroots movement.

With 10 senators and a lower house MP, the Greens have their largest-ever federal representation.
