Milk crate inventor asks what the fuss is over Sydney's new $2.5m public artwork

The inventor of the milk crate has enjoyed a laugh at the expense of Sydney's art world.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported 89-year-old Geoff Martin, who in the 1960s developed the omnipresent milk crate seen throughout the country, was a bit bemused by the idea of turning his humble invention into a $2.5 million artwork.
The City of Sydney announced it had commissioned the installation Pavilion from artist Hany Armanious last week.
Resembling an oversized milk crate, it will be established in Sydney's centre as a public gathering place.
However, Melbourne artist Jarrad Kennedy has claimed it bears a strong resemblance to a previous work of his.
As the man who beat them all to the punch, Mr Martin has said he has been "laughing his head off".
"I don't see the artistic merit even now," he told the Herald.
"It was purely utilitarian."
