Singer Michael Bublé has told fans he will not be able to sing for some time, due to "pending vocal cord surgery".

The world-famous entertainer took to Twitter to make the announcement this morning, writing that he was "sorry" about the development.

Bublé said doctors expect him to make a full recovery, but that he would have to sit out some events next month.

He will no longer appear at the Canadian Governor General Performance Arts Award, nor perform at a Marvin Gaye Tribute event at the Kennedy Center.

"Thank you in advance for your prayers and good wishes," he wrote.

Bublé, aged 40, has won four Grammy Awards and multiple Juno Awards.

Born in Canada, he became a naturalised Italian citizen in 2005 and marred his wife Luisana Lopilato in 2011. He has two children, Noah and Elias.
