A man accused of a fatal stabbing rampage that sent Sydney's CBD into lockdown last year is ready to make a plea deal, a court has heard.

Mert Ney, 21, is accused of murdering 24-year-old Michaela Dunn in a Clarence Street unit before taking to the streets last August.

Mert Ney is reportedly ready to agree to a plea deal over an alleged fatal stabbing rampage. 9News

Mr Ney allegedly ran through the CBD brandishing a butcher's knife, and is also accused of stabbing 41-year-old Linda Bo.

The issue of Mr Ney's mental fitness to stand trial has dominated court proceedings for the past year, but his defence have now said he is ready to make a deal and plead guilty to some of the 10 charges he is facing.

Asked if Mr Ney was willing to make a plea, his lawyer Zemarai Khatiz said the aim was to do so "on the next occasion".

Ms Dunn's mother Joanne also spoke publicly for the first time since her daughter's death.
