Body found in Sydney bushland identified

The woman whose body was found in bushland in Sydney's south has been identified as Najma Carroll.

The 33-year-old was most recently known to live in Marrickville, in Sydney's inner west.

Ms Carroll's body was found by a male member of the public while walking his dog in an area of scrub known by locals as "White Rock" near Sandy Point Quarry in Menai, just before 6pm yesterday.

Car seats and clothing was also seen scattered for metres around the area, which doubles as a remote four-wheel-drive track.

Ms Carroll's body was found partially clothed and dumped on the muddy path.

Authorities have said her injuries were horrific, with signs of trauma to the head and a fire.

The former honours student at Sydney Girls' Grammar School is known to police, and her death has been deemed as suspicious.

Authorities are not sure how long Ms Carroll's body remained on the track before she was found, with investigators now looking into what she was doing there and who she may have been with.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone with information about her movements in recent days or anyone who may have frequented the area off Heathcote Road.
